Ironman Challenge

Gumboot Friday

In 2022 local gym owner and electrician Glen Martin along with Good friend Dave Orme cycled on stationary bikes for 24 hours to raise money for Gumboot Friday – “I am Hope” charity. This year the pair have decided to take on a new challenge. When Glen was thinking about what he could do for the charity, he thought about CrossFit - as finding the fittest, it covers strength, agility, cardio, moving odd objects and more. He was imagining the hardest thing he could possibly do, and what came to mind was an Ironman challenge. Glen said “I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone on little to no training as this will be the hardest challenge ever”.

FUNDRAISER

Glen and Dave will be starting their morning off at 5:30am on Saturday 2nd November at the Richmond Aquatic Centre with a 3.9km swim. Followed by 545 laps (180km)  of the Saxton Velodrome and ending with 105 laps (42.2) of the Saxton athletic track. They are hoping to be finished by 11.59pm Saturday 2nd November.

During the 180km bike at the velodrome we will be selling raffles, holding a bake sale, have games for the family and stationary bikes to ride.

Along with money donations,  we are wanting to put together raffle prizes, a bake sale, workouts at CrossFit 7010 gym and a fun day out for families at Saxton Velodrome.

How to get involved

We will have 4 stationary concept 2 bikes for the community to get involved with. Hire your one hour spot with Amanda now - info@fitforlifenelson.co.nz or instagram CrossFit7010Nelson.  The stationary bikes will be running from 10am - 3pm in support of Glen & Dave. You could ride on your own, bring some friends or your work colleagues. You can bring a cash donation or scan the QR code and donate directly to the Give-a-little page; https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/iron-man-challenge

If biking is not your thing, join them at the running track around 4pm until they complete the marathon. You don’t have to run, you could also walk! We will have lanes 3 - 8 available to show your support. This will be the hardest part of the ironman, your support will help take their mind away from the pain and get them to the finish line.
